9 Dogs that Look Like Ewoks ( May The Dog Be With You )

Many people would love dogs that look like Ewoks for one simple reason. Ewoks are incredibly cute, cuddly, and adorable (they’re also deadly, as the movie reveals, but that’s not important right now).

Aside from that, a dog that bears beloved Star Wars characters’ appearance appeals to diehard fans. So, which are the dogs that look like Ewoks?

The Ewok look-alike dogs are Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu, Affenpinscher, Lhasa Apso, Pomeranian, Bouvier Des Flandres, and the Griffon Bruxellois (otherwise known as the Brussels Griffon).

All nine of these could form a small band of natives from the forest moon of Endor.

Ewok Dog Breed List:

1. Bichon Frise

When groomed properly, the Bichon Frise can bear an Ewok’s appearance, particularly when fluffed up at the cheeks.

The Bichon stands about 12 inches tall and weighs around 11 pounds. Though there are no pure white Ewoks in the movie, you cannot help but have Ewok in mind when looking at this breed.

Its fluffed fur conceals the canine facial features and gives it the appearance of having a much wider face with much less of a snout. With its dark eyes, dark nose, and the appearance that its fur provides, the Bichon Frise can easily qualify as a dog that looks like an Ewok.

2. Shih Tzu

Being covered in a fur blanket, the Shih Tzu also qualifies as an Ewok look-alike.

Like the Bichon Frise, the Shih Tzu’s fur erases the breed’s face’s structure.

But rather than being puffed out, the Shih Tzu has long-hanging fur drapes over its features, often draping down to its feet.

This breed stands no taller than 11 inches and weighs no more than 16 pounds. The Shih Tzu is one of the most popular breeds in Asia and worldwide. It is well known to be a charmer, a clown, and affectionate- particularly with children.

As far as this dog is concerned, looking like an Ewok is the only similar trait they have to the movie characters, as it prefers to stay indoors for the most part. Being a lap dog and always staying close to their owners is what makes their day.

3. Affenpinscher

The Affenpinscher is an adorable little breed whose expressions have earned it a couple of nicknames, such as monkey dogs and ape terriers. When you add its “little dog syndrome” personality, it’s nicknamed the “mustached little devil.”

Their strangely human expressions, shaggy face, and stubby nose are enough to enter the fray of Ewok look-alikes.

This breed stands around 12 inches and can weigh up to 10 pounds. This dog’s comedic personality and sweet yet fearless disposition make it an entertaining and lovable pup.

4. Lhasa Apso

You’d swear that this was a stuffed animal if it decided to hold still.

The Lhasa Apso pins the needle on the cuteness meter and is an easy entry into this list.

This breed stands 11 inches tall and can weigh up to 18 pounds- a small and hearty dog. They have a coat that looks much like the Shih Tzu but is also seen with a shorter, fluffier fur style.

Regardless of the fur style, this pup looks like an Ewok, no matter how you slice it. If not an Ewok, it could certainly fill a role as “Cousin It” from the “Adams Family.”

5. Pomeranian

If you’re looking for an Ewok that you could possibly fit in your pocket, you’d be interested in the Pomeranian.

Admittedly, as the Pom grows into adulthood, it looks less and less like an Ewok due to it not having long or fluffy fur on the cheeks to conceal its snout.

However, when you look at it dead-on, there’s no mistaking its Ewok features.

The Pomeranian stands about 7 inches at the shoulder and weighs about 7 pounds. It’s a pint-sized ball of fur with a full-sized personality.

Equipped with a sweet temperament and being as cute as a button, it’s no surprise that the Pomeranian is one of the world’s most popular dogs.

Have you heard of the most popular Pomeranian who ever lived?

6. Bouvier Des Flandres

The Bouvier Des Flandres proves that you don’t need to be a pint-sized pup to look like an Ewok.

Though it’s at a disadvantage of not being a small ball of fur, it’s got the facial features that rake the breed into the Ewok Look-alike list.

This breed stands up to 27-28 inches tall at the shoulder and can weigh up to 110 pounds. Bouvier Des Flandres are renowned for their ethic as a working dogs and endeared for their big hearts toward their families.

When you look at its face, particularly dead-on, you can instantly see why it could be considered to resemble an Ewok. The ears that sit folded in just the right place, a pronounced beard, mustache, and overall shaggy appearance does the trick.

7. Brussels Griffon (Griffon Bruxellois)

This breed of dog started it all as it would relate to Ewoks.

George Lucas’s Brussels Griffon inspired his ideas behind these Star Wars characters, and all it takes is one glance to see the resemblance.

The Griffon Bruxellois stands at about 10 inches at the shoulder and weighs in at around 10 pounds. There are smooth versions of this breed, but the Ewok truly comes to fruition when looking at the shaggier, bearded variety.

Because this breed is responsible for Ewoks’ existence in the first place, the Brussels Griffon holds a firm grasp on the number one position of dogs that look like Ewoks.

8. Yorkshire Terrier

Let’s examine the breed more closely in relation to their similarities to Ewoks.

The Yorkshire Terrier is a small breed of dog with thick, Ewok-like fur. Additionally, they have short, flat snouts, much like the face of an Ewok.

Despite their dainty and refined appearance, they have the heart of a feisty, classic terrier. Ewoks exhibit this same feistiness in the Return of the Jedi, as they’re shown fighting off invading stormtroopers with their primitive weaponry.

Yorkshire Terriers are small and compact, another similarity to Ewoks. They have floor-length silky fur, ranging in color from steel blue to a rich golden tan.

Even with such a dainty appearance, these little dogs display courage and bravery and will often bark to ward off intruders. They will try to protect their owners and territory even in the face of a much larger predator.

Sound familiar? Yup, Ewoks did the same thing, fighting back against the Empire despite being thoroughly outgunned and outnumbered.

Never backing down is one of the hallmarks of this breed, and if they could pick up pointy sticks and set traps for intruders, we’re sure they would do it in a heartbeat.

Besides the Griffon Bruxellois, this breed may be one of the most similar breeds of dog to the Ewoks.

9. Cairn Terrier

Cairn Terriers are excited, joyful, and busy, as far as dog breeds go. Like other terrier breeds, these little dogs were bred to be fierce predators, rooting foxes and other small game out of their hiding places for their owners.

They were originally bred in the rocky Scottish countryside, a bit different from the home planet of the Ewoks.

But one similarity they share with the Ewoks is their fierce loyalty and go-to ground personality. Cairn Terriers look look and walk the walk.

With their small size and scrappy strength, they could outmaneuver larger predators while also being the perfect size to hunt smaller prey.

As you can probably guess, these little dogs thrive where they can explore and dig. They share the same wild spirit that Ewoks have, never backing down from a fight.

They also share many physical similarities with their distant counterparts from a far, far away galaxy.

Their fur is on the short side but curly and dense, much like fur many Ewoks are shown to have in the films.

Cairn Terriers typically have darker colored coats, which fit perfectly with most of the Ewoks shown, with fur ranging from dark brown and black to light brown and tan.

I’m sure you have noticed a few similarities between these breeds, which help them qualify to fit the “Ewok appearance.” What are they?

  • They have a short or almost non-protruding snout.
  • They have a healthy coat of fur that fits the idea of an Ewok.
  • They have relatively large appearing eyes compared to the size of their heads.
  • They are small or relatively small breeds.

Other dogs out there bear Ewoks’ resemblance (I can think of some cats that also do), but not as much as the breeds listed above.

So, if you want to get the closest thing possible to an Ewok aside from a stuffed animal, I hope this post has helped you out.

Fortunately, all of the breeds in this list are overall loving, friendly, and playful dogs that fit well into any home, most of which suit well in apartment life.

However, I believe it’s safe to say that all will need special care in grooming, so bear that in mind when picking up your Ewok.
