Shepherd Finds Poodle

Question:

As a kid, I had a Beagle/Lab who could track. It was a lot of fun. Once, my mom was gone and I didn’t know where she was. I told the dog to find Mom. He put his nose to the ground and off we went! He led me to the gas station. It seems that we ran out of gas for the lawn mower. There was mother with a gas can, just having finished buying the gas. She was very surprised to see me.

: My 8 mo. old standard poodle decided to leave my property to chase a : squirrel. : He usually stays on deck/lawn with me, but I guess the squirrel was too : irresistable for him.  (no cars in area) : After 10 long minutes trying to locate my dog, my girlfriend came over : with her : 6 yr old german shepherd who has bad hips and can luckily walk.  She told : me : that her dad who recently passed away and left them his shepherd, had the : dog : trained in tracking.  However, she didn’t really know how to command the : dog : to do so, but wanted to try to have her dog find mine. : I really didn’t have much faith in this due to circumstances, but got my : dog’s : blanket for her dog to sniff.  The shepherd didn’t seem excited about : sniffing the : blanket/locating my dog, but did slowly walk through neighbor’s property : to : perimeter of wooded area.   : Low and behold, here comes my poodle….The shepherd found him! : I can’t wait til next tracking class since I want to have my poodle learn : this great : skill also. : Barb — Elaine Gallegos
